In the first-person horror puzzle game Hello Neighbor, the fear doesn't come from blood or monsters but from always feeling like you're being watched. Really enjoying climbing through that backyard window?

Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? There'll be cameras there soon. Trying to escape? The Neighbor will find a shortcut and catch you.

Hello Neighbor

A House with Lots of Secrets

Scenes of the game take place in a quiet Hello Neighbor. Your neighbour's locked-up house is where he keeps a dark secret. As you sneak inside, the house changes to keep you from finding out what's really going on.

The story isn't told directly in Hello Neighbour, so players have to look around, explore, and figure out what's going on by finding clues in the world.

HELLO NEIGHBOR GAMEPLAY BASED ON VIEWING AND JUDGING

In Hello Neighbor, there are no set paths or clear instructions to follow. Your main goal is to sneak into your neighbour's house and find out what's inside without getting caught.

  • In order to move forward, players must: Sneak into the house through windows, doors, or secret openings that aren't locked.
  • Look for keys, switches, and other useful things that can be used to get into new places or systems.
  • Solve puzzles in the environment, like turning on devices, moving things around, or getting to higher places.
  • Boxes, magnets, glue, and other common items can be used to make new paths or block traps.

When your neighbour sees you and starts to chase you, run away and hide.

Sometimes getting caught is a good way to learn. Each failure shows you which ways are risky, where the traps are, and how the neighbour responds to what you do. Fear that comes from thinking, not from shock.

Hello Neighbor is scary in a way that is subtle but effective:

  • How you always feel like you're being watched
  • The worry of hearing footsteps coming up behind you
  • Panic when a well-thought-out escape plan doesn't work

Over time, familiar places become more dangerous.

There are jump scares, but they're not the main point. Being afraid of not knowing where your neighbour is, what he has changed, or how things will go wrong next is what makes you scared.

CAN YOU SURVIVE ONE MORE NIGHT?

  • Granny 2 is the sequel to the extremely popular Granny series. This part continues the gameplay of the first part. Play and see if you can survive the game.
  • Baldi's Basics Plus takes you back to an institution that appears familiar, except at this point everything is more extensive, messier, and fewer predictable.
